Founder & Head of School

Ann Hsu

Ann is the daughter of Bertrand D Hsu. Similar to her father, Ann is an immigrant Chinese American who has lived and worked in both the US and China. A 25-year professional and entrepreneur in the technology and consumer products industries, Ann co-founded and led her own companies in both Silicon Valley and China for over 18 years.

Ann holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an MS in Electrical Engineering and MBA from UC Berkeley.

Ann served as Chair of San Francisco Unified School District's Independent Citizens Bond Oversight Committee, President of her sons' Galileo High School PTSA, and was appointed by the San Francisco Mayor to serve on the SFUSD Board of Education.

COO & CFO

Quincy Yu

Quincy is a 45-year professional and entrepreneur. After working at multiple large multi-national corporations, Quincy was recruited and served as CFO, COO and CEO of four startup companies.

Quincy holds a BS in Organizational Behavior and Marketing from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford University.

Quincy is the Chair of the SFUSD Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, a Board Member of the Lowell Alumni Association and former Vice Chair for Urban Services YMCA Community Action Agency. She is also a SCORE volunteer who frequently presents financial management workshops for small businesses and a former CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for foster youth.

Director of School

Matt Allen

Mr. Allen is a 4th generation San Franciscan and a product of SFUSD. He graduated from Lowell High School in 2004 and got his BA at UC Santa Barbara. He then spent seven years in China, teaching and working as a journalist as well as started the first cross-fit gym in western China.

Upon returning to San Francisco, Matt became a teacher and taught and coached (basketball and baseball) at Galileo High School for seven years before joining BHA.

Chinese (Mandarin)

Kathy Meng

Ms. Meng is originally from China and has been teaching Mandarin Chinese in the United States for fifteen years. She has designed curricula to engage diverse learners from beginners to those preparing to take the AP Chinese Language and Culture test.

Ms. Meng also teaches Chinese philosophy and the Four Classics and uses stories to engage children to learn the Chinese language and culture.

English Teacher (Elementary)

Ms. Campbell

Ms. Campbell has a BS in Family Studies from Cornell University and an MS in Education from Bank Street College. She has experience teaching many different grades of students in elementary school.

Ms. Campbell teaches English to Lower and Middle Elementary students at BHA.

Adjunct Teacher of

Technology

Mr. Maddalozzo

Mr. Maddalozzo is an IT professional and has run his own IT consulting firm for many decades. He has also taught programming and robotics to primary and secondary students for many years. He currently teaches technology to BHA students once a week.

Adjunct Teacher of Music

Ms. Tian

Ms. Tian is a graduate of the Xi'an Conservatory of Music in China with a BA in Cello Performance. She provides 1-on-1 music instruction in piano and other instruments to BHA students once a week.

Teaching Assistants

UC Berkeley Students

Alongside teachers, we have a group of 6-8 students from UC Berkeley volunteering as Teaching Assistants at BHA each week. They are bilingual and bicultural and from China.
